The researchers at the Institute of the Lithuanian Language engage in a wide variety of activities.
The goal is for the activities to mirror the needs of our society, contribute to the development of Lithuania’s science, and conform to the global trends in linguistics, providing grounds for further research. That is why the researchers cooperate closely with their foreign counterparts by doing internships, exchanging experience, promoting foreign projects of Lithuanian and Baltic studies in different ways, and supporting the activities of foreign centres for Lithuanian studies. To make the language resources stored by the Institute more accessible and easier to use for research of different fields, a range of information and textual databases are being developed.
As scientific activity is grounded on continuous updates of data and facts, exchange of information and research experience, the Institute of the Lithuanian Language organises science conferences, seminars, courses, with admittance open to expert linguists from both Lithuania and all over the world. Efforts are made to focus research, to the maximum extent possible, on specific linguistic problems that are relevant at this time; therefore, some research is funded with money from various programmes and projects that are usually obtained by way of tenders. The goal of doing so is to achieve the highest level of research possible.
