Scientific library
The collections of the scientific library of the Institute of the Lithuanian Language are being accumulated since 2006. The library’s open collection of printed documents consists of more than 7,000 publications. That includes literature on scientific linguistics written in a variety of languages, linguistic dictionaries, handbooks, encyclopedias, bibliographic publications, periodicals in linguistics, and linguistic publications from the international publisher „John Benjamins Publishing Company“.
The open collection contains every publication from the Institute of the Lithuanian Language, including three scientific periodicals: Acta Linguistica Lithuanica, Bendrinė kalba, Terminologija. All of the articles from these periodicals are available in digital format and publicly accessible.
The manuscript collection is being accumulated since 2007. It includes the manuscripts, card-files, letters, documents, awards, and photos from renowned Lithuanian and foreign linguists.
The library holds 22 manuscript collections (316 file units). The oldest manuscripts belong to the collections of Friedrich Kurschat and Alexander Theodor Kurschat. Separate collections are dedicated to lexicographers and the editorial board of the Dictionary of the Lithuanian Language.
The library’s vaults contain collections of the following linguists: one of the most famous Lithuanian lexicographers Jonas Paulauskas (1923-2003), a Latinist, compiler of Latin-Lithuanian dictionaries, and researcher of the origins of names, Kazimieras Kuzavinis (1927-2006), a Lithuanian linguist, translator, and Latinist, Kazimieras Eigminas (1929-1996), and researcher of the Samogitian dialects, and a textual scholar, Birutė Vanagienė (1934-2011).
